By Delta Event News
High Chief Dr. Dennis Otuaro, Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), has called on the Elders' Council to unite with him in ensuring the federal government's initiative in the Niger Delta thrives.
Speaking at the phase four stakeholders' meeting held at KFT Place in Warri, Delta State, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, Otuaro emphasized the pivotal role of the Elders' Council as the face of the struggle for a better Niger Delta.
During his address, Otuaro expressed concern over the declining number of beneficiaries in the programme, stressing the importance of expanding educational opportunities for Niger Delta youth.
He highlighted the reopening of the amnesty portal for JAMB students seeking scholarships and the revival of specialized foreign scholarship programmes.
While outlining plans for the programme's enhancement, Otuaro underscored the necessity of prudent resource management to avoid detrimental effects on the region. He urged the Elders' Council to view the amnesty programme as a collective responsibility and pledged President Bola Tinubu's commitment to its success.
Appointed on March 15, 2024, as Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Niger Delta and PAP Administrator, Otuaro has engaged extensively with stakeholders across the region to align the programme with its objectives.
The stakeholders' meeting, spanning from June 21 to June 25 and attended by delegates from different phases, concluded with discussions with the Elders' Council on pivotal strategies for advancing the PAP.
