One Dead as Ikokotoru Federated Communities Demand Justice Over Brutal Murder of Industrious Son

The leadership of Ikokotoru Federated Communities, under Abere Community in the creek of Warri North Local Government Area, Delta State, has called on the Delta State Government, relevant security agencies, and traditional councils to urgently investigate and bring to justice those responsible for the cold-blooded murder of one of their industrious sons.

According to reports, on October 9th, 2025, armed men from Adoloseimo No. 2 Community invaded the peaceful settlement of Ikokotoru Federated Communities and brutally murdered a hardworking young man from Ikokotoru who was engaged in his regular timber and fishing work. The attackers were said to have used guns and cutlasses in the deadly assault.

Speaking on the incident, the Chairman of Ikokotoru Federated Communities, Mr. Melford Otukpu, described the killing as barbaric, cruel, and unacceptable. He stated that the deceased was known across the creeks as a diligent and peace-loving youth, committed to earning an honest living through timber and fishing activities.

> “We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss. Our son went about his lawful work only to be ambushed and killed in cold blood. We have reported the matter to the Koko Police Station for proper investigation because, as peace-loving people, we will not take the law into our own hands,” Otukpu said.

He further recalled that the same Adoloseimo No. 2 community had previously invaded Ikokotoru, an act that led to the arrest of one of their men by the police for attempting to cause unrest in the area.

> “These recurring attacks are becoming unbearable. We want the government, security agencies, and traditional leaders between the two kingdoms to wade into this matter urgently to prevent further bloodshed and ensure lasting peace,” he added.

Chairman Otukpu also clarified that the Ikokotoru Federated Communities are fully located within Delta State’s territorial boundary, not Ondo State, as some have falsely claimed. He therefore urged the Adoloseimo people to desist from crossing into Ikokotoru territory to cause unrest, stressing that the area has long been home to peace-loving residents engaged in fishing and timber activities.

> “We condemn this killing in its entirety and urge the Delta State Government, the Commissioner of Police, Warri North Local Government authorities, and other relevant bodies to bring the perpetrators to justice. We cannot continue to live under fear in our own land,” he emphasized.

The community expressed its commitment to peace and cooperation with lawful authorities but insists that justice must prevail to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents of the creeks.
