Ayakoromo Federated Community Set to Entertain High Chief Engr. Kestin Pondi and Guests with a Special Boat Regatta Display in Memory of His Late Father-in-Law.

The serene riverine town of Ayakoromo, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, is agog with preparations as the community gets set to thrill High Chief, Engr. Kestin Pondi, FNSE, and distinguished guests with a special Boat Regatta display on Friday, 5th December 2025. The colourful performance, sponsored by Hon. Garry Stanley, is part of activities lined up to honour the memory of Late Capt. Williams Ayagbene John Elaweremi (1938–2025)—father of Chief (Mrs.) Blessing Pondi and revered father-in-law to the Tantita MD.

Late Capt. Elaweremi, a respected mariner, community elder and devout family man from Ayakoromo, is remembered for his humility, service, and positive influence across the Ijaw nation. His burial rites, which began with a solemn Service of Songs in Effurun, will reach their peak tomorrow as Ayakoromo hosts the final funeral ceremonies for the distinguished patriarch.

As part of the community’s tribute, tomorrow’s Boat Regatta promises to be spectacular, traditional, and6 full of unexpected artistic surprises, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Ijaw people. Performers, dancers and beautifully decorated boats are expected to reflect the honour and respect the community holds for the late captain.

Speaking with Delta Event TV, the sponsor of the special entertainment, Hon. Garry Stanley, described the gesture as a personal and collective tribute to “a great man whose life touched many.”

According to him, “Capt. Elaweremi lived an exemplary life, and this Regatta is our way of honouring his memory and supporting High Chief Kestin Pondi and the family at this time.”

The Ayakoromo Federated Community has assured that guests will witness a memorable cultural spectacle befitting the legacy of the man being honoured.
