WHY AN EGBEMA SON OR DAUGHTER DESERVES THE WARRI NORTH HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY SEAT

An Open Appeal to His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State

Your Excellency,

The strength of Delta State lies in its diversity, and the wisdom of your M.O.R.E Agenda rests on equity, inclusion, and fairness for all ethnic nationalities. It is on this foundation that we respectfully make the case for an Egbema Kingdom son or daughter to occupy the Warri North House of Assembly seat.

1. Warri North is a Shared Heritage, Not a Monopoly

Warri North Local Government Area is home to two major ethnic groups: the Itsekiri and the Ijaw of Egbema Kingdom. However, since the return to democratic governance in 1999, representation in the State House of Assembly has not reflected this dual structure.

Egbema Kingdom, comprising six federal wards, over forty communities, and a significant voting population, has yet to produce a representative for the constituency. True equity demands that principles of rotation and inclusion be applied not only at the state level but also at the local level, where governance directly impacts the people.

2. Egbema Kingdom Carries the Economic Weight of Warri North

The riverine communities of Egbema host vital oil and gas resources that contribute significantly to Delta State’s FAAC allocation and Nigeria’s economy at large. From Opuama to Polobubo, these communities bear the environmental and social costs of resource extraction.

Despite this, they continue to face serious infrastructural deficits, including poor healthcare systems, inadequate schools, and lack of basic amenities. Representation from Egbema would ensure that issues such as environmental remediation, shoreline protection, jetty construction, and youth empowerment receive the legislative attention they deserve.

3. Effective Representation Requires Lived Experience

Legislation without lived experience often results in policies that fail to address real challenges. An Egbema representative would bring firsthand understanding of riverine life — transportation by water, seasonal flooding, lack of road networks, and the urgent need for mobile healthcare and adaptable education systems.

Your administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda promises Meaningful Development and Opportunities for All. This promise can only be fully realized when those who understand the terrain are actively involved in decision-making.

4. Peace and Stability Depend on Fairness

History has shown that exclusion breeds tension, while inclusion fosters unity and peace. Allowing Egbema Kingdom a fair opportunity to represent Warri North in the State Assembly will strengthen inter-ethnic harmony and reinforce a shared sense of belonging.

It will further solidify your reputation as a leader committed to fairness, justice, and inclusive governance across all communities in Delta State.

5. Capacity and Competence Abound in Egbema

Egbema Kingdom is not lacking in capable individuals. The region is home to professionals with proven track records in law, public administration, education, and community leadership.

What they seek is not preferential treatment, but an equal opportunity to contribute meaningfully to governance and to support your administration’s legislative and developmental objectives.

Our Appeal

Your Excellency, your leadership has consistently reflected a commitment to fairness and unity. As the 2027 political cycle approaches, we humbly appeal that you use your influence and moral authority within the APC to support the zoning of the Warri North House of Assembly seat to Egbema Kingdom.

Such a decision will:

* Correct a long-standing imbalance

* Strengthen grassroots confidence in democracy

* Expand the reach of your M.O.R.E Agenda to underserved riverine communities

Egbema people are not seeking to displace others. Rather, they are asking for inclusion — a seat at the table to contribute, to build, and to ensure that Warri North works for all its people.

Respectfully,

Rt. Hon. Prince Michael Tamaramiekiritei Thikan
